Breeding Why is there a breeding season? Seaquine eggs will not hatch unless they reach and maintain a certain temperature. This only occurs once a year and in only two locations. This means that seaquine's have limited time and space for the hatching of their offspring.
When is breeding season? There are two breeding seasons per year, Central Moon breeding season takes place in July. Southern Moon breeding season takes place in January. Southern Moon breeding is limited and costs extra to cover the seaquine's travel expenses.
Is out- of-season breeding possible? Yes. If you acquire a fire nest you may breed at any time.
What are the Basic Rules? 1) You must own a Seaquine to participate. 2) You must have a nest for every egg. 3) No inbreeding. Dwarves cannot breed within the same family. 4) Females may breed once per season, Male may breed three times. 5) Bonded couples may only be bred to their mate. 7) Only adults may breed. How much does breeding cost? This depends on where the couple lives. If they need to travel to meet each other the cost rises. The default province in Pinnacle province. All primary coves are located in Pinnacle province as well. Bonded couples pay no breeding fee. Couples living in the same province pay 10k for record keeping. Couples who must travel to another province pay 25k for record keeping and travel expenses.
What happens when... Crossing breeds? All four breeds originated from the finned breed and so the finned gene is dominate. Finned X (Kelpie, Dwarf, or Ghost) = 25% of (Kelpie, Dwarf, or Ghost) Kelpie X (Dwarf or Ghost) = 25% chance of Dwarf or Ghost. Hybrids possible but rare. Dwarf X Ghost = 25% chance of Ghost. Hybrids possible but rare. **Hybrids-Special rules Finned X (any other breed) = Hybrid not possible Hybrid X Same Hybrid = 50% Hybrid, 25% base breed 1, 25% base breed 2 Hybrid X Finned = 50% Finned, 25% chance hybrid, 25% hybrid base Bonded couples receive a hybrid boost of 25%.
Breeding Major Mutations? Major mutations are not genetic but are instead caused by exposure to certain anemones. This makes it nearly impossible to produce a lionfish or featherfin when cross breeding. Each major mutation carries remnants of this exposure in their blood. When two major mutations are bred together chances rise significantly although still rare. Bonding also seems to improve the chances although no-one has been able to explain why. The rules below apply to featherfin breeding as well. Lionfish X (Finned, Kelpie, Dwarf, Ghost) = Less than 1% chance of lionfish Lionfish X Lionfish = 10% chance of lionfish Bonded Lionfish Pair = 20% chance of lionfish
Breeding Minor Mutations? Minor mutations have a 25% chance of passing to offspring. .
Crossing patterns? Any Pattern X Same Pattern = 100% chance of that pattern Common X Different Common = 50% chance for each Common X Uncommon = 25% chance of uncommon Common X Rare = 20% chance of rare Common X Ooak = 10% chance of Ooak
Parents have spectrum path mutations? (NEW!) Spectrum path mutations do not pass to the offspring. These special fins and patterns are acquired at the guild and are not genetic in any way.
Using a seaquines skills for breeding. Medics, Curers, Menders, Healers and Dreamers have special skills that they can use during breeding season. You may use your skill on your own pod or provide the service for another pod. Each seaquine can use their skills once per level each season.
Dreamer Reveal: Allows dreamer to reveal the gender of an egg/hatchling. Twin Boost: Increases the chance of twins by 10%(medic), 25% (Mender/Curer) or 50%(Healer). Use once per egg. Recessive Boost: Increases the chance of one recessive gene showing: 25% (Curer), 50% (Mender) or 100% (Healer) Hybrid Boost: Increases the chance of a hybrid by 25%(Mender) or 50%(Healer). Use only once per egg. Major Mutation Boost: Increases the chance of a major mutation passing to the offspring. Menders have a 25% chance of success if one parent has the major mutation and a 50% chance if both parents have the mutation. Healers have a 75% chance of success if one parent has the major mutation and a 100% chance if both parents have the mutation. Favor Father/Mother: Allows medic to influence the egg to favor one trait from a parent. Allows Mender to influence the egg to favor up to three traits from a parent. Healer may influence all traits. Traits include patterns, colors, breeds etc.
Boost Skill (Amplifiers only): Increase percentages by 10% per level.
*Nursery Attendants (also known as nursery masters) can match all of the breeding skills of the medics plus they can learn additional specialty skills. These include but are not limited to changes in coloring, patterns, unique markings, and many others. Each attendants specialty skills are unique to that seaquine.
