May
Resin Carousel Horse
May is the first of my "Carousel of the Month" horses to be completed which is appropriate since she is styled after the lead horse on real carousels. "May" is the herald of spring and is highly detailed with over 100 flowers adorning her as well as butterflies and ribbons. The body of a Breyer Stablemate was used as the base of this horse. The pole is cast in place brass and the base is pine. This horse was fun to paint!

July 23rd 2004: Mold Making Woes
Well, my mold would have turned out beautifully if the mold release
had worked. Instead I had to do some serious slicing to get my horse
out and instead of a nice three piece mold I have a jigsaw puzzle. So
back to the mold making table she goes. I have already repaired the
damages to the original and found the proper mold release, Vaseline
and mineral spirits, which will keep my mold pieces separate next time.
Here is a photo of my failed mold!

Here are the latest and best photos of May. Today she disappeared
under a new coating of molding rubber. If all goes well I will be casting soon.

The first castings are finished and look very nice. The pole is cast in place,
and all that remains to be added is the wooden base. This update is about
a week late since my computer's hard drive crashed and I lost all of my files
and could not edit my web page.
